Artist Nancy Calef, and authors Zoe Fitzgerald Carter, Ivory Madison, Laura McHale Holland, and
Frances Lefkowitz talk about being the mother of a daughter, or being the daughter of a
mother--- the problems, pitfalls, and joys. A good panel to attend if you want to learn more about
the mother and daughter relationship. Three of the women on this panel are authors of memoirs
which include stories or focus on their relationships with their mothers, complicated relationships
that have influenced them greatly --- for better or worse.
Speaker, writer, and interviewer extraordinaire, Vicky Larson discusses how she has managed to
deal with some of the more challenging interviews she's conducted as Lifestyles editor for The
Marin Independent Journal, and offers up techniques and tips for being able to feel comfortable
talking with strangers whether in a work or social setting. Excellent talk for those who sometimes
find themselves tongue-tied or with their foot in their mouth when they are trying to make a good
impression at work or make another person feel at ease in a social situation.
The Women's PowerStrategy Conference is pleased to host businesses and
organizations owned or operated by women, and the work of our speakers in the Keynote
and Lunch room. Tables will be set up with displays and items for purchase and attendees
can visit this area in between sessions, at lunch and all throughout the day.
The American Association of University Women states on their website: "Attracting and retaining
more women in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce will
maximize innovation, creativity, and competitiveness. Scientists and engineers are working to
solve some of the most difficult challenges of our time, and engineers design many of the things
we use daily. When women are not involved in science and engineering, experiences, needs,
and desires that are unique to women may be overlooked." Erika Bjune, expert in the latest
developments in the field of technology (including the astonishing "Cloud technology) talks about
all the myriad of reasons why we should encourage young women and girls to pursue this career
track.
As chair of the California Arts Council, Malissa Feruzzi Shriver is very active in promoting the arts
and imagination as vital components in a well-rounded American education and citizenry. The
professional painter, writer, and owner of Feruzzi Fine Arts also serves on the boards of the
National Assembly of State Art Agencies (NASAA), the California Institute of the Arts, and the
Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF) including on its Congressional Advocacy Committee.
She is a policy board member for the California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE) and former
board member of the California Music Project, a nonprofit organization created to support music
education programs for California K-12 schools. The Women's PowerStrategy Conference is
pleased and honored to welcome Malissa, who graciously travels from southern California for the
sole reason of appearing at our conference.
A tech expert, a physicist, two film makers, a producer, a singer and a stand up comic, all men from the ages of
20 to 50, help solve the age old mystery about how men think. Comedian Joe Klocek will lead a panel which
includes Jeb Harrison, Justin Oliver, Ransom Stephens, Alex Vargas, Niko Volonakis, and Jody Weiner in
answering questions that have been submitted by conference attendees about how they see relationships,
fatherhood, women, and more. (Note: to submit a question for this panel, email Jane Hunter at:
timothyrosspublicists@comcast.net. Put "Question for Men's Panel" in the subject line.)
A scrumptious buffet is included in your admission price. The Women's PowerStrategy Conference is pleased
that our buffet is highlighted by a special dish prepared by one of our speakers, award-winning chef, Marisa
Churchill. Top that off with entertainment by the lovely Tiana Andreas on piano while you stroll around and
peruse the delightful offerings by our vendors and speakers. Who could ask for more?
A female Jewish intellectual in Nazi Germany, Emmy Noether made perhaps the most significant discovery of
the 20th century. Noether’s Theorem ties the laws of nature directly to the geometry of space and time, the
very fabric of reality. It is the basis for all modern physics theories, from the “Standard Model” to
Superstrings, and is the keystone of the origin of mass problem and the search for the Higgs Boson. Two
things should bother you about Noether’s Theorem: (1) how come so few people have heard of Emmy
Noether? and (2) why isn’t her theorem well known to lovers of science? Dr. Ransom Stephens explains why
this is something women (and men, too) should think about...
One girl drops out of high school at age 16, then goes on to become a lawyer and the founder of a website
the members of which are some of the world's most famous writers. Another buys some farm land and turns
into a multi-million dollar business, but still finds time to devote to children's charities. One other picks herself
up after losing all, dusts herself off and start over launching a new business within 18 months, and a fourth
simply never accepts that there is any meaning at all to the word, "impossible." We've all heard about women
like these, but now you'll get a chance to meet them and learn their secrets for success. After listening to
them, you'll find out that they're not so different from you after all. Patricia V. Davis moderates a panel
comprised of four amazing entrepreneurs: Red Room CEO and founder, Ivory Madison, SEO expert and web
strategist Kimberly Moore, (who's here from Utah), architect and former Planning Commissioner of San
Anselmo, Kim Pipkin, author and Sonoma Lavender co-owner, Rebecca Rosenberg, and executive editor at
Marin magazine, Mimi Towle.
Having started one of the largest girls' websites on the internet, Evan Bailyn has a unique perspective into the
developing mind of the young female. At the same time, he's also gained access to some of the top business minds
in the country, both male and female. In this speech, Evan examines the characteristics that girls acquire from an
early age, and the reasons why many women flounder in a male-dominated business world. In a rare, male look at
the female struggle to the top, this talk will open your eyes to the mindset you need to equal --- and exceed --- your
male counterparts.
Christine Bronstein Talks with Patricia V. Davis about A Band of Wives, Her Social Media Group
that Helps Women Help Women, why she formed the organization and why female friendships are
so important.
Are you a budding entrepreneur? An aspiring mogul? Someone who aims to run a small business? Or
perhaps you can’t imagine thriving in an “eat-what-you-kill” world. Amanda McTigue inspires a deeper
approach to leadership—by women—from a woman’s point of view. After years of being the boss,
managing diverse workgroups ranging from zero to hundreds at a clip, Amanda’s here to “tell it like it is” for
women in charge. She leavens recommendation with observation, how-to’s with don’t-do’s, exploring many
of the issues women face (or create!) as they grow into roles of authority. Fresh insights scale from the
nitty-gritty to the metaphysical, targeting younger women in particular as they transition from student to
employee to manager and beyond. Amanda’s “hour of power” will help spark creative thinking about where
in your life you intend to lead and how.
As a woman who found herself married to an alcoholic, Susanna Solomon discovered that despite the
naysayers, her ultimate fate and finances could truly be in her own hands. Join her as she talks about how she
made a complete reversal of fortune rather late in life.
Join Laurie Berry for a interactive and informative discussion about the joy and benefit of aromatherapy in
everyday life. Learn how essential oils can improve your health and psychological well being and the difference
between synthetic fragrance and essential oils. Be prepared to be inspired , and transformed by the power of
these biologically potent drops from nature.
KRCB radio host and author Gil Mansergh shows us film clips and discusses the imagery in them, deconstructing
Hollywood's tricks for manipulating audiences in subtle and not at all subtle ways, including in our perceptions of
women. Films include recent Box Office champions like:"Twilight," "Sex and the City," "Salt," "Julie and Julia,"
"District Nine," "Fast and Furious," "The Bourne Identity," " Run Lola Run," " Kit Kittredge: An American Girl,"
"Thank You For Smoking," and "Wag the Dog."
A musician and author who is diagnosed with a debilitating, degenerative disease uses the experience to create a
book series. A life-long activist who witnesses death and destruction too horrifying for most of us to imagine uses the
experience to write award-winning songs. A young woman, pregnant with her second child, watches in horror as she
and her toddler see her beloved, 29-year old, vitally alive husband collapse at her feet and die, but then uses the
experiences to inspire and help others.
So, how was your day today?
Three women suffer tragedies that would bring most of us to our knees find not only a way to cope, but a way to
thrive. In a panel discussion with Patricia V. Davis, they tell her how they do it. "First, you get angry...."

predators, and the lengths she will go to rescue them when they are victimized.

Book Association San Francisco Chapter, Linda Lee, tells us in no uncertain terms that what we don't know can
harm us and seriously haunt us. Forever. In language we can all understand, she explains how these sites work,
and what we need to do to protect ourselves from predators, identity theft, cyber-stalking and simply the wrong
people having too much information about our personal lives.
